1. Introduction

KlearFi ("we," "our," or "us") operates a financial health application that helps users understand their finances and work toward becoming debt free. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal information when you use our services.

We do not sell your personal or financial data. We do not recommend loans, credit cards, or financial products. Our business model relies on subscription revenue, not data monetization.

2. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address, password, and date of birth. We use your date of birth to verify that you are at least 18 years of age, as required to use the service. Passwords are stored using secure, industry-standard methods and are never stored in plain text.

Financial Data

Depending on your use of the service, we may collect: transaction data you upload (dates, descriptions, amounts, categories), account names and types, debt information (balances, APR, minimum payments, due dates), and payment history you log. If you use live bank connections (Pro tier), we receive transaction and account data from our bank data provider.

Usage and Technical Data

We collect information necessary to operate the service, including session data, request logs (method, route, status, duration), and error reports. We do not include personally identifiable information, transaction details, or financial amounts in logs.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide and maintain the financial health service
  • Verify that you meet the minimum age requirement (18 years) to use the service
  • Authenticate your account and manage your session
  • Process transactions, categorize spending, and generate financial summaries
  • Generate AI-powered insights when you request them (Pro tier)
  • Process subscription payments
  • Send account-related emails (verification, password reset, billing)
  • Improve the service and address technical issues
  • Comply with legal obligations

For AI-powered insights, we send aggregated financial data (spending totals by category, debt balances, income and expense averages) to our AI service provider. We do not send raw transaction descriptions, merchant names, or other personally identifiable information for insight generation.

4. Third-Party Service Providers

We use the following categories of service providers to operate KlearFi. We share only the data necessary for each purpose.

Payment Processing

We use Stripe to process subscription payments. Stripe receives payment card information directly from you; we never store or process card numbers on our servers. For subscription management, we may share your email and subscription identifiers with Stripe. Privacy policy: stripe.com/privacy

Authentication and Data Storage

We use a cloud infrastructure provider for user authentication, secure data storage, and application hosting. Your account and financial data are stored in secure data centers. Privacy policy: supabase.com/privacy

AI Services

We use Anthropic (Claude) for two purposes: (1) categorizing transaction descriptions into spending categories and extracting merchant names; (2) generating personalized financial insights from aggregated data (Pro tier). For categorization, transaction descriptions are sent to Anthropic. For insights, only aggregated numeric data is sent; no raw descriptions or personally identifiable information. Bank Connections (Pro tier)

If you use live bank connections, we use Plaid to securely connect your financial institutions. Plaid receives your banking credentials and transaction data pursuant to its own terms and privacy policy. We receive only the account and transaction data Plaid provides to us for use within KlearFi. Privacy policy: plaid.com/legal

5. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service. When you delete your account or request deletion, we will delete or anonymize your personal and financial data within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain it for legal, regulatory, or legitimate business purposes (such as resolving disputes or enforcing agreements).

6. Security

We use industry-standard encryption for data in transit and at rest. Access to your data is restricted to authorized personnel and systems. We do not store payment card data; Stripe handles all payment processing. We implement security measures designed to protect against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction of your information.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of your personal information
  • Export your data in a portable format
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent

If you are in the European Economic Area, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

8. Children

KlearFi is not intended for users under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

9. International Transfers

Our service is operated from the United States. If you access KlearFi from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. By using our service, you consent to such transfer.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
